(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Jazayeri made the remarks on Monday during a ceremony held to commemorate the anniversary of Iran’s acceptance of UN Security Council Resolution 598 in 1988, which ended the war between Iran and Iraq.
Jazayeri said the UN Security Council issued several resolutions during the eight-year Sacred Defense (1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war), but Tehran rejected them because they had not taken into consideration Iran’s demands.
But despite the fact that Resolution 598 did not take into account Iran’s request that the aggressor country be punished, Iran still accepted the resolution, he added.
Iraq’s war against Iran was followed by Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990, which led to the United States’ attack on Iraq in 1991, proving Iran was correct in demanding that the aggressor should have been punished, he stated.
